NEW on the schedule: BJJ Kids No-Gi Classes

We're delighted to announce a new class on the schedule at Studio Galera in Bandon, West Cork. Starting next week, we're running a dedicated BJJ Kids No-Gi class every Wednesday from 6:00 to 6:45 pm, open to kids aged 7-13.

What Is No-Gi BJJ?

No-Gi is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu without the traditional uniform. Instead of gripping the gi jacket and trousers, you're working with body clinches, wrist controls, and underhooks. It's a bit faster-paced and complementary to gi training, and the kids who've already been on the mats will take to it quickly.

For kids who haven't trained with us before, it's also a brilliant way to get started. No kit to buy, just comfortable athletic gear, and you're good to go.

Why We're Adding It

A good few of our kids have been competing in No-Gi events, including last year's IBJJF European No-Gi Kids Championships, and we want to give them dedicated mat time to develop that side of their game. Having a weekly No-Gi class means they're not just getting reps in the gi and then switching formats at a competition. They'll build proper habits and comfort in both.

Beyond competition, the skills transfer well. No-Gi develops body awareness, balance, and the ability to control and be controlled without relying on grips. It's good for the overall development of any young grappler.

The Details

• What to wear: Rash guard and shorts or leggings

The class fits neatly into the existing Wednesday schedule alongside the gymnastics classes and the adults sessions later in the evening.

Getting Started
