Stuart Carmody Takes Silver at IBJJF European Championship 2026

Stuart Carmody, BJJ purple belt and instructor at Studio Galera in Bandon, West Cork, took home silver at the IBJJF European Championship 2026 yesterday in Lisbon.

The Tournament

Stuart fought through five tough matches in what was considered one of the deepest brackets of the entire tournament. Sixteen high-level purple belt competitors from across Europe, and he was able to fight his way to the finals, ultimately falling by just 2 points.

The level of competition at the IBJJF Europeans is world-class. Getting through that many matches against that calibre of athlete takes serious skill, conditioning, and mental toughness.

Looking Forward

Stuart's already focused on the next challenge. "I'm proud of the performance, aware of the adjustments that need to be made, and fully motivated to improve them heading into Pans," he said after the tournament.

The Pan American Championship is scheduled for March, and Stuart's targeting gold there. Growth comes from these moments, from understanding what worked and what needs refining.
